COVID Time Learning

This is most probably the last time I'm going to see a full on vacation and I'm lucky enough to be at home. The world is struck by Corona Virus and countries have announced lockdown as a means to stop community spread. That means, no school, no college, no going out nothing.
Perfect!

This is probably the best time to gain a few skills while having almost all the time at hand (other than time spent on cleaning, cooking and other stuff).
I have 2 months at disposal and when my college opens, I'll be sitting for an exam to pass 1st year of Masters. And as an when next semester starts I'll be sitting for placement in companies.
So I have these 2 months to focus on course work as well as competitive coding.

But this will become kind of boring to be honest.

So I plan to target some other stuff too, like machine learning, or some linux related stuff, or some open-source thing which I can get along (I have no idea how to go about it but have a great interest and motivation to contribute to any open-source project, kinda noob in this) or something else.

When it comes to selecting what to do in spare time, or learning something new, it's very easy to get distracted. You don't really want to dive into something that probably won't even pay off, ever. So rather get started with something that can actually benefit you in your career or whatever it is that you do. If it's just for hobby, well, then do whatever you want as long as it satisfies you.

So I'll focus more on machine learning track. I plan on taking courses available in Coursera and indulging in competitions in Kaggle. If I spread the work that I have across 2 months time, I'll be better able to plan, track and manage all 3 things that I'll be working on.
By the way, my coursework has following subjects:

  • Advanced Computer Architecture 🖥
  • Network Security 🔐
  • Real Time Systems 🚀 (don't know why I took this instead of Deep learning when I had an option 🤷)
My go-to platform for algorithm coding practice is LeetCode wherein I plan on doing at most 5 questions a day. If this goes well then I'll have covered 300 questions at most, and if not that well then at least 200 questions by the end of my vacation.

I won't be looking at my coursework initially. Will start on it after a month. I won't be able to retain it for so long even if I start just today.

Oh and not to forget, the major target: having fun while doing all of this 😉
